One Single Teardrop

One Single Teardrop

Let the four year old speak.
For too long she was
      silent,
              observing,
                         reticent,
                                      hidden.
Now she wants to speak
and she keeps getting
shushed,
          soothed,
                       pushed aside.
Children are not to be heard.
What would happen if the children
were in charge?
                      Bedlam.
This is something we cannot allow.
Silently, she waits for someone to hear.
Self – contained,
but for
          one
                     single
                                   teardrop.
